McCain Extends a Hand Up to Victims of Haiti’s Earthquake
Broadens commitment to match employee donations with a gift of CDN$100,000 to UNICEF
Toronto, Canada, February 22, 2010 - As a family company that values community and is committed to helping its employees, customers and consumers in their journey to a better life, today McCain is responding to the urgent call to support relief efforts in Haiti by broadening its initial commitment of matching employee donations with a gift of CDN$100,000 to UNICEF. McCain employee around the world donated an equivalent of CDN$80,000 to local, national or international Haiti Earthquake relief funds, and their support for the cause inspired McCain to increase its contribution.
“The show of support from our employees in helping their neighbours in Haiti truly demonstrates the McCain spirit,” says Dale Morrison, McCain’s president & CEO. “Helping to provide a better life for people around the world is a priority for McCain and we do this in so many different ways, through our food, through our partnerships and through our actions.”
The devastating consequences of the massive earthquake in Haiti on January 12th has united efforts around the world to bring immediate relief to the millions of people hurt, hungry, homeless and facing the daunting task of first surviving, then rebuilding.
McCain’s gift was directed through UNICEF Canada, which assists in protecting children from violence, exploitation and abuse, as well as providing health, nutrition and education. This is particularly important in Haiti, a deeply impoverished country, where more than half its people are under the age of 18.
